Mavs Upgrade Ryan Nembhard to Two-Year Standard Deal

The Dallas Mavericks are upgrading undrafted rookie guard Ryan Nembhard from his two-way contract to a new two-year standard NBA deal.

The Dallas Mavericks are upgrading undrafted rookie guard Ryan Nembhard from his two-way contract to a new two-year standard NBA deal, per agents Todd Ramasar and Jaafar Choufani of Life Sports Agency (reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania).

To create the roster spot, Dallas waived veteran point guard Tyus Jones. The contract includes a team option for the 2026-27 season, giving the Mavs flexibility as they eye backcourt revamps and future lottery positioning (with buzz around prospects like Cooper Flagg).

Nembhard, 22, has impressed since joining post-2025 Draft (after starring at Gonzaga, where he led the nation in assists). In 38 games (17 starts), he’s averaged around 6.7 PPG, 4.9 APG, and solid 37.9% from three overall. In those 17 starts specifically, he sparked the offense with 9.9 PPG, 6.1 APG, and an efficient 44.4% 3-point shooting.

This move rewards his playmaking, decision-making, and low-turnover game (just 1.4 TOs per game), positioning him for a bigger rotation role down the stretch of the 2025-26 season. As the Mavs shift toward development amid a tough Western Conference standing, Nembhard looks like a smart, cost-effective keeper for the backcourt future.
