Trae Young Talks Getting Tossed From Game Ahead of Debut with Wizards
Trae Young is set to debut for the Washington Wizards, but got tossed from the bench in a game prior to his first appearance on the court.
Four-time All-Star point guard Trae Young is set to make his Washington Wizards debut this Thursday, March 5, 2026, when they host the Utah Jazz at Capital One Arena (tip-off at 7 ET, available on League Pass).
Young was acquired by the Wizards from the Atlanta Hawks in early January (around January 7-9) in a trade that sent CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert to Atlanta. He hasn’t played since December 27 while dealing with right knee (MCL sprain) and quadriceps injuries/bruising, which sidelined him through the trade and recovery process.

He announced it himself on Instagram with a workout video in Wizards gear captioned/ended with “3/5,” and multiple reliable sources (like ESPN’s Shams Charania, The Athletic, NBA.com, and others) confirmed it.
Wizards head coach Brian Keefe noted Young will be on a strict minutes restriction of about 17-20 minutes, mostly in the first half, as he eases back in.
Interestingly, just hours after the announcement, Young got ejected from the bench during Monday night’s Wizards loss to the Houston Rockets (he left the bench area amid some on-court scuffle), marking a fiery (if premature) first “appearance” with the team. Fans and media have been joking about his instant passion and “culture reset” vibe for a struggling Wizards squad. He wrote on social media, “Don’t expect me to get ejected too many more times D.C… but I’m definitely bringing that energy & competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!”
This marks the end of a long wait for Wizards fans since the trade, and it’ll be his first NBA action in over two months.
